We are proud to announce a significant milestone for Superblock Studio in Benghazi, Libya.
Selected from an international field that included some of the world's leading architectural practices, among them Zaha Hadid Architects, Superblock was invited to present its urban planning solution for the future of Benghazi.
Prof. Ivan Mirkovski, Chief Architect, and Flora Halimi, Studio Director, gave a plenary lecture and presented the solution to Eng. Belkasem Khalifa Haftar, Director General of the Libya Reconstruction and Development Fund (FDRL).
Superblock also had the honor of attending as a VIP guest at the grand reopening of the reconstructed University of Benghazi — an important symbol of the city's renewal and investment in its future.
At its central exhibition booth of 30 m², the studio welcomes representatives of the Libyan Government, institutional stakeholders, potential partners, and industry professionals, presenting the complete urban project within the B2B Expo for Architecture and Urbanism, as part of the Global Competitive Urban Planning Initiative – Benghazi (GCUPI-B).
Elements of the proposal
- Benghazi Gateway Project — Bab Al Khamsa — the city as an open palm towards the Mediterranean: five axes, five gates, one connected coastline.
- Benghazi One — a vertical landmark for the new business center, a 50-story tower at the heart of Bab Al-Khamsa.
- The New Corniche — the coastal highway is lowered below grade, and the surface is returned to the people: promenades, terraces, and gardens facing the sea.
- Western Lake District — a new district around the western lake with a Biodiversity and Science Center, built on restored wetlands.
- CBD Port Extension — port expansion as an extension of the city core toward the water.
- Innovation & Culture Center — a public facility for science, culture, and knowledge exchange.
This is more than a project presentation. It is an opportunity to contribute to the broader discussion on the renewal, identity, and future of Benghazi — turning urban vision into an actionable framework for long-term development.
We are pleased to share our work, build new partnerships, and help shape the next chapter of this extraordinary city.
